Asthma

Any chest disease can lead to discomfort and fear when exercising due to increased breathlessness. Consequently people with asthma or other respiratory diseases decrease their physical activity, which leads to a decrease in their fitness levels, which starts a vicious cycle, where breathlessness increases at even lower levels of activity.

Improvement in your physical health is the most important way to see an improvement in your symptoms. This requires the right intensity of exercise to produce the maximum results.

Baseline assessment will include:

- Full medical history and communication with any health
  care providers to provide the best possible exercise pre-
  scription for your condition
- Peakflow assessment
- A graded exercise test to find out your level of heart and
  lung fitness


Your training will include:


- The right intensity of exercise to improve your level of
  fitness without causing you any anxiety or distress, and
  sensitive to any “off” days you may have due to increased
  breathlessness.

- Use of your prescribed medication [as required] to
  enhance your tolerance to exercise.

- Postural training to improve the amount of air you can
  breathe in and out.

- Breathing retraining,using diaphragmatic breathing to
  increase the volume of air that passes through the lungs.
